The U.S. R.D.A. (Recommended Daily Allowance) is...

"the level of intake of an essential nutrient considered, in the judgment of the Food and Nutrition Board, on the basis of available scientific knowledge, to be adequate to meet the known nutritional needs of most healthy persons."

This is the amount needed by most people to prevent deficiency symptoms and to sustain life — not necessarily the amount that would promote optimum health and well-being.⁽¹⁾

Need for supplementation is influenced, of course, by dietary intake. Even a well-balanced diet, however, cannot insure optimum nutrient intake. Nutrient content of foods will vary due to differences in the soil in which they are grown. Cooking and processing also alter nutrient content.

In addition, nutrient requirements may vary greatly with the individual and may be influenced by a number of factors:

• Heredity — Some individuals are genetically predisposed to require more of certain nutrients.^(1,2,3)

• Physical activity, including work, exercise and athletic activity, which increase energy expenditure, may cause variations in the need for some nutrients.^(1,3)

• Body size and sex can cause variations in nutrient need due to differences in frame.^(1,4,5)

• Cold or warm weather may cause changes in nutrient needs.⁽¹⁾

• Aging may cause changes in nutritional needs, depending upon the individual's physiological state.^(1,4,5)

• Illness and rehabilitation, including injury, trauma, surgery and infection, can create needs for certain nutrients different from those specified in the RDA.^(1,3)

• Medications can have a distinct influence on some nutrients. Nutritional needs may vary to compensate for a specific drug.⁽¹⁾

• Environmental pollutants and lifestyle factors such as stress, alcohol, tobacco and drug use, may deplete certain nutrients causing a need for higher intake.⁽³⁾

• Intestinal parasites and candidiasis may reduce the amount of nutrients available to the host and cause an increased need.^(1,3)

For these reasons, Mega N-R-G is a high potency formula containing more than the recommended daily allowances for many nutrients.

Iron and copper are essential for maintaining healthy red blood cells. Copper itself is vital in producing the powerful antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase.

Recent findings, however, have shown that a great number of individuals may be better served by carefully controlling their intake of these two nutrients.⁽⁷⁾ For this reason, copper and iron are not included in the Mega N-R-G formula. The vitamin D content is kept low because so many foods are now vitamin D enriched.

Mega N-R-G is hypoallergenic. The uncoated tablets contain no yeast, corn or soy. This product is also suitable for vegetarians since it contains no animal products.
